Governor refuses to meet Human Rights activists

The protesters, under the banner of the Aurat Foundation, demanded to meet the governor to record their protest but officials at the Governor’s House told the protesters that the governor could not meet them owing to his busy schedule.

Nuzhat Shirin of the Aurat Foundation said that the governor instead conveyed to them that only three members could see the secretary to the governor.

The human rights activists refused to end their protest on this attitude of the governor. The Women’s Action Forum, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and War Against Rape (WAR) have decided to stage a sit-in again in front of the Governor’s House at 10 am on Thursday (today).

The protesters marched from the Karachi Press Club to the Governor’s House to condemn a number of incidents of violence committed in the month of January including abduction and rape of a minor girl Kainat in Mehar, Dadu and gang rape of Nasima Lubanrro in Ghotki, Sindh.

The Aurat Foundation said that Shahzadi Nagore of tehsil Mehrabpur was also gang raped two months back and was still awaiting justice. Naila from Sanghar was another victim of rape.
