Government to slash lnternet rates

ISLAMABAD- Federal Minister for Science and Technology Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman said the government is going to further slash down the prices of Internet bandwidth within a week.

Talking to journalist the minister said they would hold a meeting with the Internet Service Providers of Pakistan (ISPAK) to make sure that this reduction is passed on to the users so that they could benefit from 10 to 15 per cent further reduction in Internet charges.

He said government within a year has already reduced the cost of bandwidth from 360,000 dollars to 35,000 dollars per megabit per second. He said the reduced Internet rates have made Pakistan the hottest place for investment and now even “our worst enemies are also willing to come and do business here.” “We do not want Internet bandwidth as a mean to make money for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), instead we would like it to help develop IT base in the country,” he said.
