Google services YouTube, Gmail back up after hour-long outage
ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Google services, including YouTube and Gmail, were restored for most of the users after facing a global outage for almost an hour on Monday.
Updating on its official Twitter handle, YouTube said: “We’re back up and running! You should be able to access YouTube again and enjoy videos as normal.”
The company has some of the most widely used services in the world. YouTube records over 2 billion logged-in users each month, with people watching over a billion hours of video on its platform.
Earlier, YouTube confirmed there was a problem with the website in a tweet and added that their team was working to get the website back up.
According to outage monitoring website DownDetector, more than 12,000 YouTube users were affected in various parts of the world, including the United States, Britain and India as well as Pakistan.
The YouTube outage began at 4:50pm local time reported DownDetector and 6:40AM ET in the case of Gmail, however some users seemed to be able to access the mail service. The Google search engine was operating as normal.
Many business activities suffered delay in Pakistan as Google services were down. Multiple platforms faced issues, said Aamir Hassan director media department of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI). “The service got affected in peak hours of our work.”
YouTube previously experienced outage on November 12 and May 15 according to DowndDetector. Google also encountered an outage in August.
