Global Software Bug Disrupts Pakistani Users’ Systems

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) acknowledged on July 18 that a global software update issue originating from CrowdStrike had affected Microsoft consumers in Pakistan.

A massive software bug caused widespread disruptions across various sectors, impacting air traffic communications, travel services, and banking operations globally. The technical issue, which affected key systems, resulted in delays and operational challenges, highlighting vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.

A global software bug triggered a significant outage affecting air traffic communications, banking services, and business operations across the world. The technical glitch led to delays in flights, disruptions in banking transactions, and hampered business communications, creating widespread chaos.

Downdetector, a real-time outage monitoring website, reported breakdowns in Microsoft services, including Azure and Microsoft 365, globally within the last 24 hours. In the US alone, 1,751 outages were recorded, highlighting the extensive impact of the bug on digital infrastructure.

Microsoft announced on its website that they are continuing to work on mitigation efforts for the affected Microsoft 365 apps and services. The company expects users to see improvements as they address the residual impact.
