Girls’ school blown up in Bannu

BANNU/CHARSADDA: Unidentified men blew up a government girls’ high school in Norar area of the Bannu district, late on Friday.

Authorities later recovered and defused three home-made bombs, planted in the school premises by the assailants.

A resident of Norar said the huge explosion destroyed a major part of the school’s building.

Following the blast, a heavy contingent of police reached the school and recovered the three unexploded bombs while they searched the building.

Paramilitary forces assisted the police in defusing the bombs.

Meanwhile, a Taliban was killed and a policeman injured when the Taliban attacked a mobile van of Khanumai police station in Charsadda.

Meanwhile, the Taliban also attacked Battagram police station using hand grenades and rocket launchers, slightly damaging the station’s building. In the first incident, the police mobile van was on its routine patrol when it came under fire by over a dozen Taliban, resulting in multiple injuries to police official Riaz.

A Taliban was killed when the police retaliated, while the rest managed to escape. No casualties were reported in the Taliban attack on the police station.
