Gang rape victim being threatened to withdraw case

KHAIRPUR: The main accused in the gang rape case of a 45-yaer-old woman as well as police are allegedly threatening her to withdraw her case. Four days back more than a dozen men had alleged gang-raped Shahzadi, wife of Jmaluddin Nangoro, in the village of Yousuf Nangor of the Mehrabpur town in Naushehro Feroz.

Police have allegedly arrested a few of them while the main accused, including Asghar, Ashraf, Zafar and Imamuddin, are still at large. The accused are alleged to have been continuously threatening the victim to withdraw the case. Police are also allegedly supporting them and putting pressure on the victim to withdraw the charges and settle the case through a tribal Jirga.

The husband of the woman has threatened to end his life if Sindh authorities do not do justice to his family. After the incident, a weeping Shahzadi narrated her ordeal to the police and said the accused had victimised her by saying that her son, Nawaz, had attempted to fall in love with a girl from among their relatives. The victim however said the accused were using a false story to justify their crime.
