Gang-rape survivor gets Rs0.3m as compensation

Karachi: Kainat Soomro, a gang rape survivor, was given Rs0.3 million as financial assistance at a simple ceremony arranged at the CM House on Thursday.

CM’s political secretary, Nazar Mohammed Gaho gave the cheque to Soomro on behalf of Qaim Ali Shah. The chief minister, while taking notice of gang-rape of Kainat Soomro in Mehar in 2007 and subsequent kidnapping and murder of her brother, Sabir Soomro in Balochistan, had announced financial compensation for the aggrieved family recently. Soomro, appreciating the assistance extended to her by President Asif Ali Zardari, CM Sindh and Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, hoped that the government would take the killers of her brother to task. Gaho assured the family that the government would bring the culprits to justice and extend every possible help to the family.

Meanwhile, taking serious notice of the persistent water shortage in the metropolis, Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday summoned the Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) at the CM House.

Shah sought response from MD KWSB regarding complaints over the lack of drinking water. He instructed the water board chief to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to the citizens and promptly address complaints in this regard. The CM also issued instructions for taking action against those officials who show negligence in their duty.
