Frontier Post issue: Ulema withdraw strike call

PESHAWAR- The leading religious party leaders from all over the province unanimously announced postponement of their strike call which they had given to protest against the blasphemous letter published in The Frontier Post daily.

This decision was made in a high-level meeting held with known religious and spiritual figure Allama Syed Amir Shah Gillani at Masjid Qasam Ali Khan Peshawar.

Though all the participants unanimously withdrew the strike call and postponement of every sort of public demonstrations and processions, Jamaat-e-Islami representative nevertheless declared that after Juma prayers they would arrange a meeting inside the historical Masjid Mohabat Khan and would take out a protest procession. At this stage, Syed Amir Hussain Shah Gillani declared that it will be the sole show of Jamaate-Islami.

The participants after detailed discussion, expressed satisfaction over initiatives of the government as well as the management of the newspapers who had already sought unconditional apology from the Muslim Ummah.

“We made the decision with a view to provide an opportunity to the government functionaries to fulfill their responsibilities,” remarked Syed Amir Hussain Shah Gillani who is also Central Senior Vice President of Jamiatul Ulema Pakistan. He added that meeting also asked the government to fix the responsibility and ensure exemplary punishment to the responsible people.

However, the meeting unanimously demanded release of all innocent employees and staffers of the concerned newspapers.

Allama Syed Amir Hussain Shah Gillani further said that in connection with their commitment with Islam and love with the Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the participants had decided to constitute a panel of lawyers for representing the World Khatam-i-Nabowat Conference before a court of law in such a case. He termed it an act of the Jews who had been hatching conspiracies against Muslims since long. He called upon the Muslims to remain peaceful and patient.

We do not want to harm the innocent Muslims, Allama Amir Shah Gillani remarked and demanded release of innocent employees. We consider all of them as true Muslims and no one could expect such a negative, immoral and unethical act from them. He was of the view that government functionaries in accordance with their commitments would find out a solution to the matter.

The Journalist community leaders including Fakhar Alam, President Khyber Union of Journalists (Kh.UJ), Sohail Qalandar, President of Peshawar Press Club and Ziaul Haq, President of Kh.UJ (Dastoor group) thanked the ulema and religious forces. In this respect, they called upon people from all over the province to remain peaceful.
