Free press brought positive changes in society: PML
In a press statement issued, the PML leader said the 2007 would be the year of continuity and consistency of the ongoing policies and reforms of the government that would remain under implementation besides carrying out an agenda of legislation in the Parliament. He said the 2007 would be the year of smooth political process, peace and harmony, augmentation of the democratic process and promotion of inter-faith harmony.
Lali said that year 2007 would witness the completion of parliamentary calendar followed by start of election process during which the people will decide whether they would like to see the continuation of policies initiated by the government.
He further said the PML and its allies would contest the next general elections from a united platform. He said there was a need to maintain the existing political norms to strengthen democratic institutions. He said a culture of political cooperation had developed since 2002 and political activity would increase in the days to come because of general elections. He said the passage of Women’s Protection Act showed that democratic values were taking root in the country as some opposition members also voted for the Act.
Lali said people appreciated the government’s reform agenda, which improved the life of common man and restored national dignity. He said living standard improved at grassroots level and people now had better healthcare, education, clean drinking water and smooth power supply because the government had focused on development projects. He said that the government was making efforts to carry forward the vision of Quaid-i-Azam, as it was the founding party of the country. PML was a party of masses and people participated in its centennial celebrations eagerly, he concluded.
