Fourth PTV channel starts transmission from next month

ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Television will launch transmission of its fourth channel from next month, said Secretary Information Syed Anwar Mehmood here on April 16, 2003.

Addressing the concluding session of PTV’s General Manager Conference, the Secretary Information underlined the need for telecasting of such religious programme which meet demands of the modern age.

The secretary urged that all the PTV centres should take special care while producing religious programmes.

Managing Director PTV Akhtar Waqar Azeem shed light on the salient features of the new channel. The fourth channel will air two hours special regional programmes prepared by respective TV centres.

The General Managers Conference also approved dramas, music shows and various other programmes for the next quarter.

Lahore TV station presented the highest programme ideas including six dramas. Seven programmes of Karachi TV centre, three of Peshawar and four of Quetta centre were also approved.

From the next quarter, Prime Time transmission will also telecast productions of Pakistan Television.

This will create an environment of competition among producers.

Artistes are also now more eager to work for PTV after 100 percent increase in their payment. Information Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has also announced prizes for good quality productions. This will be another incentive for producers and artistes to improve their work.

Besides launch of the fourth channel, Pakistan Television will now be telecasting its programmes through PTV World, Channel Three (Entertainment) and PTV One (family channel).
