Four gang-rape accused arrested

DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 06,2005: The Vehoa police have arrested four accused for allegedly raping two sisters after two weeks of incident. The fifth accused is still at large.

Reportedly, Ameer Khan, the father of the victims, lodged a complaint at Vehoa Police Station on March 23 that Ameer Muhammad, Jehangir, Nazeer, Sohnra Khan and Habibullah had gang-raped his daughters Mumtaz Bibi and Safia Bibi at gun point.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi took notice of the incident and directed the police to immediately arrest the nominated accused. Vehoa SHO Syed Sajjad Shah told The News that they had arrested the four accused except Jehangir from the deserted area situated on Punjab-NWFP border. He further said that investigation was being conducted purely on merit basis.

It is worth-mentioning that the medical report has confirmed the charges, however, the swabs were referred to Multan chemical examiner for further confirmation. The SHO said that three teams have been formed to arrest the fifth accused.

Online adds: Another gang-rape victim,en Bibi alias Pathani of Chak R-107/7 of Chechawatni, has threatened to commit self-immolation if the accused were not arrested. Parveen told a press conference on Tuesday that she was gang-raped at gunpoint on March 6. She added that the Harrapa police despite tall claims had failed to provide her justice.
