FM ‘Mezaan’ launched: CJ PHC highlights role of media in freedom of judiciary

The Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court, Justice Dost Mohammad Khan highlighted that the role of media in transformation of knowledge and restoration of judiciary is vital, saying that judiciary always supported for nurturing democracy and avoid confrontation between key state organs.

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony of FM Radio “Mezaan” here at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy on Wednesday, he said the media had played important role in independent judiciary and supremacy of rule of law in the country. CJ PHC added that the media has earned great significance following restoration of judiciary and establishment of democracy. We have never seen independent judiciary and media in past, which is currently enjoying by both institutes in the country”, he remarked.

“Today we have materialised our dream by gifting a guiding FM channel to the people of KP and this was our long standing mission, he said, that they have given practical shape” Chief justice maintained. He said the step would purely for informing the masses regarding their legal rights and human rights issues. On the occasion, the Director General KP Judicial Academy Hayat Ali Shah, Station Director Muhammad Amir Nazir, Justice, Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar, Dr Shahjehan Sayed and Administrative staff of Peshawar High court were present.

Commenting on the current scenario, Chief Justice Dost Mohammad said the situation was quit perplex, saying that the future of the state only lay upon two important institutions, including judiciary and media. He claimed that judiciary would not let any force to delay elections in the country, and to hold it as per schedule in the country.

“We have much concerned about the vary existence of the state”, he stated. He asked the masses to elect honest people with power of vote in upcoming general election, which was amicable for survival of the state and democracy. He also stressed the government to provide full proof security to judges lawyers in all the district courts of the country and increased the number of police contingent to foil any attack against judiciary. The Radio Station Director Muhammad Amir Nazir also spoke on the occasion.
