Floods affect 12 districts in Balochistan

QUETTA: Special Flood Relief Focal Person Akbar Hussain Durrani on Friday said the recent heavy rains and floods have affected 12 districts of Balochistan.

Addressing a press conference with by Balochistan Home Secretary Naseebullah Bazai and Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Tahir Muneer Minhas, Durrani said Loralai, Kachhi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Harnai, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Musakhel and several other areas of Balochistan were affected due to rains and floods.

He said special teams were making aerial and ground assessments of the affected areas to devise a comprehensive plan to help the flood victims properly. He said that Rs 0.5 million had been initially released to the Jaffarabad and Naseerbad deputy commissioners for relief activities, however, upon visiting the areas the funds were increased to Rs 2 million each.

Giving details of the devastations caused by heavy rains and floods, Durrani said that 9,156 people had been affected while 22 people were killed and 12 other wounded.
He said 1,654 houses had been completely destroyed while 3,971 were partially damaged.
