First batch of Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) Commissioners retired

ISLAMABAD: First batch of Information Commissioners of Pakistan Information Commission had completed their tenure on Tuesday November 07, 2022.

Pakistan Information Commission’s first Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Azam and Information Commissioner Fawad Malik has retired from his post.

He has served as Chief Information Commissioner for four years, earlier this he also worked as Federal Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and also as Registrar at Gilgit Baltistan’s Supreme Court.

Under the leadership of Mohammad Azam, PIC has passed more than 700 judgments in pursuance of the appeals filed by the citizens, out of which 143 were authored by Mohammad Azam, while 245 are penned by Information Commissioner Fawad Malik.

The third member of the PIC, Information Commissioner Zahid Abdullah will complete his tenure on November 16, 2022. He has authored 333 orders.

Some landmark orders authored by the former Chief Information Commissioner; Mohammad Azam includes declaring the answer sheet of the CSS exams as public record. This order was passed in pursuance of an appeal filed by a citizen Sajid Abbas against Federal Public Service Commission, who have sought his answer sheet of a subject of CSS exam.

Moreover, record related to the helicopter being used by the Prime Minister is also declared public record in an order authored by Mohammad Azam. This order was also upheld by the Islamabad High Court.

Civil Rights activists paid tribute to the services of the members of Pakistan Information Commission.

Naeem Sadiq- social activist – in a message stated PIC was just about the finest thing that happened to Pakistan. Its commissioners established highest standards of ethics and professionalism.

CPDI’s Executive Director, Mukhtar Ahmed Ali stated the Commission did an excellent job and we are really proud of the legacy they lead behind for the following commissioners to follow.
