Hats off to Aisha Gazdar whose 16-minute documentary, ‘The honour deception’ (on honour killing in Pakistan) has won the best jury award at the 2nd Delhi Shorts International Film Festival held a few days ago. This is a great achievement since films from many developed countries participated in the festival. Gazdar is not new in this field and has already won an award in the Canadian Labour International Film Festival for her documentary, ‘The Silent Voices’ which highlighted the miseries of home-based women workers in Pakistan.
Since our film industry has been on the decline for many years now, the Ministry of Information should patronise documentary filmmakers so that they may be encouraged to make good documentaries to compete with filmmakers from other countries.
