Female lawyer termed Zionist for favouring cultural shows

KARACHI: A general body meeting of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), aimed at condemning Geo TV, led to serious disturbance when a woman lawyer, Afroze Begum, advocate, shouted at the organisers for rejecting fashion shows and other cultural programmes.

The meeting, chaired by KBA Vice President Zahooruddin Mehsood, demanded of the government to take action against those responsible for airing a controversial show on Geo TV within three days. The meeting participants said: “If the government failed to take a legal action, the lawyers would file petitions against the responsible persons.”

The meeting suggested that all fashion and other cultural shows should be banned. At this, Afroze Begum stood up and made a speech against the demands. She said it was unfair to ban such shows as they also serve our cultural cause.

However, some of the lawyers snatched the mike from her and pushed her away. Some other lawyers termed her an agent of the Zionist lobby and anti-country elements, while some others announced to sack her membership.
