On December 12, Federal Secretary for Information Ambreen Jan underscored the significance of the China-Pakistan Media Corridor in developing the existing relationship between the people of Pakistan and China.
Speaking at the premiere of the first-ever Pakistan-China co-produced film Batie Girl in Beijing, she shared that two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China. These agreements, made between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and the Chinese government, focus on co-productions to foster mutual understanding and deepen the bond between the people of Pakistan and China. She noted that this effort builds on a collaboration history, citing that 12 Pakistani films were screened in China between 1957 and 1991.
The film Batie Girl, directed by Syed Jamal Shah from Pakistan and Xie Peng from China, was originally released in China on November 11, 2021, and in Pakistan in August 2023. The film will be re-released on December 16, 2024, in over 7,000 cinemas across China under the title The Girl from Ironclad-Brotherly Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, praised the collaboration, saying that the film symbolizes the friendship between the two countries and expressed optimism about future joint projects that would continue to bring people closer. Mao Yu, Head of the China Film Administration, congratulated the organizers. He expressed confidence that the signing of the co-production agreement would pave the way for more co-productions, further enhancing cultural cooperation.
