Fayyaz Leghari appointed Sindh police chief

Karachi: The Establishment Division, Islamabad, after holding consultations and deliberations, finally appointed Capital City Police Officer Karachi Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari as the new Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Sindh and a notification to this effect was issued on Saturday.

Sources in the Home Department claimed that that Additional IG CID (Sindh) Saud Ahmed Mirza is likely to be the next CCPO Karachi.

According to the notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, Establishment Division, Islamabad: “Mr Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari, BS-21 officer of Police Services of Pakistan, presently serving under Government of Sindh, is posted as Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Government of Sindh, in his own pay & scale with immediate effect and until further orders”.

It may be noted here that the issue for the posting of PPO Sindh had been pending for quite some time, as the federal government was resisting to post the PPO from Islamabad but the concerned quarters, including the Prime Minister Secretariat, keeping in view the Sindh law and order situation, decided to post an experienced officer Fayyaz Leghari who has served at key positions in interior Sindh.

Fayyaz Leghari was recruited in the police service on March 29, 1979, and he was first posted as ASP Headquarters Karachi in 1981, followed by his posting as Deputy Commandant Sindh Constabulary, Karachi.

Prior to his posting as CCPO Karachi, Fayyaz Leghari had served as SP South Karachi, SP Thatta, SSP Hyderabad, SSP South Karachi, SSP Mirpurkhas, SSP Malir Karachi, DIGP T&I, DIG Headquarters, DIG Traffic, DIG Larkana, DIG Operations and Investigation Karachi, DIG Special Branch (Sindh) and

Regional Police Officer (RPO)

Hyderabad.

Talking to The News, the new PPO Sindh said that his first priority would be to tackle the law and order situation and in this regard he issued directives to the regional police officers (RPOs) of Hyderabad and Sukkur and acting CCPO to ensure strict vigilance at all entry and exit points of their respective areas as well as conducting proper checking of commercial and loaded vehicles.

Fayyaz Leghari said that he has asked the police to enhance snap checking, mobile patrolling and keep strict vigil on all public places and markets in the province.

He said he has directed the police officers to mend their attitude, behaviour, character and conduct and behave with the citizens in proper manner. He said that human rights of the citizens would be protected and no violation would be tolerated in this regard.

Sources said that the PPO Sindh had called a high-level meeting regarding law and order situation at his office on Monday that was attended by regional police officers of Sukkur and Hyderabad, acting Capital City Police Officer Karachi and Deputy Inspectors General of Police of various wings, including the zonal DIGS.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in Sindh as well as discussing the tribal issues. The PPO issued directives for nabbing the criminals involved in creating law and order situation in the province as well as launching a special drive to curb crime rate.
