False cases journalists condemned

MIRPURKHAS, January 09,2005 Mirpurkhas Union of Journalist MUJ has strongly condemned the implicating of journalist Muhammad Haneef Samon in false case by Tando Bago police, district Badin and issuing threats of implicating journalists of Naushehro Feroz district by police.

MUJ held its meeting on January 7 presided by its president Afaq Ahmed, and attended by Saleem Azad, Dost Ali Bhatti, Qamaruddin, Muhammad Hashim Shar, Barkat Qureshi, Sher Muhammad Malkani, Najeeb Sambhry, Manak Laghari, Ghulam Rasool Mugheri and others. Meeting took serious notice of implicating journalist Muhammad Haneef Samon in false case and demanded the Sindh chief minister and I.G. police to take immediate notice into this matter and withdraw the false case and punish the responsible police officials of Tando Bago police station.

Afaq Ahmed speaking at the meeting deplored that government was claiming of press freedom but police were implicating the journalists in the false cases when the journalists exposed their illegal acts through their newsitems.
