Faiz’s poetry in German, Urdu languages launched

KARACHI: Goethe Institut launched a bilingual book of poems entitled ‘Jub Tera Samandar Ankoh Main’ featuring poems in Urdu and German languages by renowned poet of the country, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, at a ceremony at the Institut on Friday evening.

Daughter of Faiz, Salima Hashmi, was the chief guest at the ceremony, while Goethe Institut Director Dr Mauel Negwer, translator of poems Shamin Manzar, poetry lovers and prominent personalities were also present.

Goethe Director while speaking on the occasion said that Faiz was renowned poet, who served in various aspects through his poetry. He was expert in writing and had brilliant hold on literature besides being expert in many languages.

He further said that Pakistan literature was not very famous in Germany but this book would be helpful for Germans who were interested in Pakistan literature.

He appreciated the services of Faiz and said he was person who was full of skills.

Hashmi shed light on Faiz life and told the audience different experienced which were faced by Faiz. She also told the listener about the prison experience of Faiz. Hashmi also read some part of poetry and letters of Faiz, on which audience showed their keen interest.

She said that according to Faiz, ‘pain is an external but unhappiness is within your self and pain could not avoid but you could overcome unhappiness.

The pomes have been translated from Urdu to German language by head of the language department Shamim Manzar and Goethe Institut former director Markus Litz. In the last session of the ceremony, Manzar read three poems from the book including ‘Roshneyon Ka Shaher’, ‘Quaid Hai Tanhai’, Jub Teri Samandar Ankoh Main’.
