Experts stress measures to save crops from climate changes

ISLAMABAD – An agriculture expert, Shamsul Haq Memon, has stressed the need for giving attention to the agriculture sector, particularly keeping in view the latest climatic and environmental changes occurring in the country.

Giving an interview to PTV News on Friday, he underscored the fact that Pakistan should never forget to preserve it crops from cultivation to harvesting from climatic effects. “We need to apply different methods for improving cultivation and harvesting for all seasonal crops so that these could counter unusual climate changes,” he said, and added, “The farmers should follow the latest methods of cultivation and harvesting. Another expert, Mahfooz Ursani, said that Pakistan is blessed with four seasons, which are very helpful for growing different types of crops. “This is very rare when compared to the rest of the world,” he pointed out.He said the reason behind Pakistan’s good agricultural produce was the country’s hot climate, which is very favourable for growth purposes. He added that in order to meet recent demands, Pakistan needed to divert from routine crops such as wheat, cotton, sugarcane, rice and should also pay attention to different kinds of grass such as fodder for the animals so that we could extract healthy meat, milk and poultry.
