Experts back code of conduct for media

KARACHI: Speakers at the seminar, ‘Current Media Crisis and Way Forward’, unanimously agreed that self-regulation and a concrete code of conduct for all TV channels is the need of the hour to overcome the prevalent media crisis.

Presided by Javed Jabbar, the Supreme Court Media Commission chairperson and a former federal information minister and senator, the conference was attended by various prominent journalists.

“The current situation in the media is very dangerous and the reason for this crisis is the absence of self-regulation and concrete legislations,” said Jabbar, adding that the way forward in such a scenario is to review the code of conduct for TV channels. According to him, live transmission is full of hate speech and requires proper editorial judgment.
