Employees of Newspapers Appeal to government
KARACHI- Representatives of employees of the newspaper industry have urged the government not to be influenced by representatives of the All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS), a body of newspaper owners.
In a statement, the chairman and secretary general of All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (APNEC) Abdul Hameed Chhapra and president Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) I H Rashid said that newspaper owners were trying to pressurize the government to do their bidding. They alleged that the employers were refusing to implement the 7th Wage Award, announced by a respectable judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Referring to the acknowledgement of APNS that working journalists were the backbone of the newspaper industry, they said that the backbone should be constantly nourished and nurtured and its needs should be met promptly.
