Eid may fall on Aug 20: Met Office

ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department Saturday said the moon of Shawwal is less likely to be sighted on August 18; hence Eidul Fitr may fall on August 20.

According to the Met Department, Shawwal moon will emerge belatedly on August 18. Accordingly, it said, the chances are thin that it would be sighted in any part of Pakistan. “The weather would be cloudy on August 18 in most parts of Pakistan,” the Met Office said. Although the weather would be cloudy in upper parts of Pakistan on August 19 but the moon could be sighted in Sindh and Balochistan, it said, adding that there are obvious chances of moon sighting in different parts of the country on August 19.

The Met Office said the final decision regarding moon-sighting will be taken by central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees in their respective meetings.
