Effective legislation must to curb cyber crime: Pervaiz
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Tuesday said there was a dire need of making effective legislation to curb cyber crimes in the country.
He said information technology was a new sector at the national business arena and there was still room to improve check and balance. Commenting on a report of the New York Times about working of an IT company – Axact, the minister said it was because of the shortcomings in the existing laws on cyber crimes. He said there was no sufficient awareness about ‘e-business’ in Pakistan, even educated community had less information about it. “Unfortunately, there is no law to deal with cyber crimes effectively,” he added. Accordingly, Pervaiz Rashid said a bill had been moved in the Parliament to prevent cyber crimes but it was lingering on due to difference of opinion among political parties. “The Act will be enforced as soon as the bill gets the nod from the quarters concerned after which the elements involved in cyber crimes will be arrested,” he said. Replying to a question, the minister said the government and law enforcement agencies were bound to take action when a crime surfaced.
To another question, Pervaiz Rashid said by the grace of Allah Almighty he was a true Muslim and strong believer in oneness of Allah and Hazrat Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him is His last Messenger. He said he had been religiously following the teachings of Islam and always preferred to practice the golden principle of forgiveness and never desired to take revenge from opponents. Answering a question, the minister said Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf had been in the habit of levelling baseless allegations of polls rigging, and later taking U-turns.
Earlier, the PTI blamed the then Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Ramday and Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi for maneuvering the elections and making 35 punctures.
