Ednan Shahid dies of heart attack

LAHORE – Editor The Post and elder son of Zia Shahid, the Chief Executive of Khabrain Group of Newspapers, Ednan Shahid passed away in London in the wee hours of Saturday after a heart attack. He was 37.

His body is expected to be brought to Pakistan Tuesday (February 13). His funeral prayers will be offered at 5-N, Model Town Extension, Lahore.

As per details, Ednan was on his way back to Pakistan from the United States after his father’s medical check-up there. He was stated to be in good health. However, during his one-day stay in London, he had a heart attack, which proved fatal.

He was scheduled to reach Lahore on Sunday (today). Ednan had visited an airline office on Friday evening for confirmation of return tickets to Pakistan. On his way back, he suffered the heart attack. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he could not survive. He had never suffered a heart-related problem in the past.
His wife Humaira Awais Shahid is the Editor Magazines of The Post and a member of the Punjab Assembly. He left behind a son and two daughters to mourn his death. His younger brother Imtinan Shahid is the Editor of daily Khabrain.

President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi, Governor Khalid Maqbool, NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai, Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani and MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad have expressed their profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Ednan Shahid.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi and Governor Khalid Maqbool on Saturday visited the residence of Zia Shahid and condoled the death of his elder son.

Editor-in-Chief The Nation Majid Nizami and Editor Arif Nizami also visited the residence of Zia Shahid and expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the tragic death of Ednan Shahid. They prayed that Allah Almighty grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, the office-bearers of Punjab Union of Journalists, Lahore Press Club and Young Journalists Association of Pakistan in their condolence messages expressed grief over the sad demise. They prayed Almighty Allah should rest the departed soul in eternal peace.

In a joint statement released from Karachi, the office-bearers of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) have expressed profound grief and shock over death of Ednan Shahid.
The CPNE President and General secretary, Fasih Iqbal and Wamiq Zuberi said the death of young and talented editor Adnan was a big loss for the industry.

The CPNE office-bearers prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
