Editors vow impartial election coverage

Newspaper and magazine editors from all over Pakistan attending the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) meeting termed the standing committee’s annual progress report satisfactory.

The CPNE standing committee meeting chaired by CPNE President Zia Shahid took place at a private hotel where a detailed discussion examining the council’s annual progress report was held.

The performance report of CPNE members was termed satisfactory after which unanimous solidarity with the forum was pledged and it was vowed to not compromise on forum’s integrity and continuance.

Moreover, the editors said that freedom of press shall be ensured at all cost. 2018 polls are near and all the political parties are demanding an unbiased representation. An unbiased and full-fledged representation of all the media organisations was also demanded at the meeting and it was agreed on to not adopt differential attitude with any of the media organisations.

It was once again vowed in the meeting that CPNE is the only representative organisation of all newspaper and magazine editors working for the freedom of the press, freedom of expression and for the rights of newspapers and magazines.

The CPNE editors vowed that enemies will never be successful in their despicable actions. Sub-committee performance report was also presented in the meeting after which Roznama Aas Hyderabad, Roznama Bakhar News Sukkur, Roznama Frontline Karachi, Roznama Jahan Pakistan Karachi, Roznama Jhongar Karachi, Roznama Mehshar Karachi, Roznama Muqaddam News Hyderabad, Roznama Sacchal Times and Roznama Wafaye Sindh were awarded associate membership.

Subsequently, Roznama Karanama Lodhran, Roznama Raat Lahore, Roznama Report Faisalabad, Roznama Sadaye Watan Lahore, Roznama Sangmel Multan, Roznama Shelter Faisalabad and Sanwal Bhakar from Punjab were awarded associate membership.

From Islamabad, Minority Times, Roznama Adan Peshawar from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Roznama Hewad Shah Peshawar, Roznama Hurmat Peshawar and Roznama Sarhad News Abbottabad while from Balochistan, Roznama Asar-e-Nau Gwadar, Roznama Bakhabar Quetta, and Roznama Himmat Quetta were awarded associate membership.

CPNE President Zia Shahid, Secretary General Aijaz-ul-Haq, vice president Rehmat Ali Raazi, Amir Mehmood, Anwar Sajidi, Tahir Farooq, senior members Arif Nizami, Ayaz Khan, Dr. Jabbar Khattak, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Kazim Khan, Abdul Rehman Mangario, Arif Baloch, Muzaffar Aijaz, Abdul Khaliq Ali, Mumtaz Ahmed Sadiq, Tanveer Shaukat, Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi, Aslam Khan, Basheer Ahmed Memon, Irshad Ahmed Arif, Zulfiqar Ahmed Rahat, Syed Intezar Hussain Zanjani, Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Syed Farzand Ali, Muazzam Fakhar, Najam-ul-Hassan Arif, Waqas Tariq Farooq and Aslam Miyan participated in the meeting.
