US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale met on Monday Faisal Edhi, son of Abdul Sattar Edhi and praised the late philanthropist’s work and compassion for humanity.

The celebrated humanitarian breathed his last at a hospital in Karachi on July 8 after prolonged illnesses and kidney failure.

The envoy paid his respects to the family of the humanitarian, saying Edhi “promoted human rights through his tireless work assisting the needy, regardless of ethnicity or religion.”

“His [Edhi’s] philanthropic work reached many communities across the globe, including America,” Hale remarked.

“Edhi was an inspiration beyond Pakistan,” the envoy observed, adding, “His legacy is his generosity, his humility, and his humanity.”

Hale said “the philanthropist’s loss will be felt throughout the world and we join the people of Pakistan and the Edhi family in mourning the passing of this great man.”

Earlier on Saturday, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah wrote a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee regarding Edhi’s nomination for the Nobel Prize.

Making a case for the nomination, Shah said Edhi was a renowned social worker, founder of the largest non-profit social welfare organisation in Pakistan and he proved his commitment to humanity beyond any discrimination and prejudice.
