ECP suspends 5 employees for running bogus election office

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended from service five employees who were running a bogus election office in Lahore.

ECP Secretary Ishtiak Ahmed Khan said on Tuesday that Muhammad Jamil (election officer), Asher Roy Bhatti (draftsman), Khalid Ismail, Syed Shabbir Hussain Shah and Imran Gill had been suspended from service and disciplinary action had been initiated against them under the relevant rules. He said the action was taken after media reports claimed that the officials were running a bogus election office in Fazalia Colony, Lahore. He said that the returning officer for the by-election in PP-160 Lahore had also submitted a detailed report over the incident.

The ECP has asked the Interior Ministry to investigate the incident through the Federal Investigation Agency and take any necessary action.
