EC takes note of political coverage on electronic media

ISLAMABAD- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took suo moto action of the reports published in a section of press regarding allegations that balanced coverage is not being given to political parties on the electronic media. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) said that action had been taken on complaints published in a section of press that some of the political parties had been meted out discriminatory treatment as compared to others. The ECP called for a report from the managing director as well as the news editor of the Pakistan Television (PTV), as early as possible but not later than September 29 on the issue.

The ECP expects that the Code of Conduct prescribed for PTV for the forthcoming general elections shall be observed in letter and spirit.

About poll arrangements, the CEC said an extensive campaign through the media was undertaken to motivate the people to register as voters. He said that over 94,000 people were recruited to assist in the registration of voters. They visited houses to register the people at their doorstep, he said.
