Dutch envoy briefed on human rights situation
ISLAMABAD – Ambassador of Netherlands, Marcel Kurpershoek in Islamabad on October 29, called on Chairman Senate’s Functional Committee on Human Rights (HR), Senator SM Zafar.
During the meeting, they discussed matters relating to the HR status in Pakistan, says a statement issued here by the Senate Secretariat. The chairman informed the ambassador that National Assembly had passed several laws aimed at improving the human rights situation in the country.
S.M. Zafar told the envoy that laws on honour killing, Hadood ordinance, ‘karo kari’ and Blasphemy had already been passed and would be taken up by the Senate soon.
He further informed the envoy that Functional Committee, during consideration of the status on women in the country, had called upon the government to arrange a national seminar.
