Durrani urges govt to introduce DTH technology

ISLAMABAD: Former federal information minister, Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani, on Sunday urged the government to introduce ‘Direct To Home’ (DTH) technology to ensure the citizens’ constitutional right to information.

Durrani made this proposal while condemning the “cable martial law” imposed by cable operators across the country. In a statement, he termed the action taken by the cable operators against private TV channels, including Geo, as illegal, and said it was a violation of the agreement between the cable operators and the viewers, who pay for the service. “How can you stop the flow of information to the viewers over personal clash with someone,” he questioned. Durrani suggested that DTH or teleport, a latest technology, be introduced in the country to curb such “anti-info terror” acts to safeguard the fundamental right of the viewer to receive information and stay informed. “Correction of image through right acts would be a better course of action rather infracting or breaching the mirrors,” he said.
