DSP, SHO suspended for manhandling journalists

The sources said Additional Deputy Commissioner Amir Ahmad Ali conducted an inquiry that had been ordered by the high-ups after the incident.The official recorded the statements of 41 witnesses including medico legal officer and senior officers, and submitted his report on Monday morning.In the inquiry, DSP Khalid Rasheed and SHO Inspector Munir Ahmad were found guilty of manhandling the journalists on January 26.

The report had recommended suspension of the DSP and SHO and ordering of a high-level inquiry against the officials and nine other policemen involved in the incident.
In light of the report, a team has been constituted under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police. The team will also identify other persons responsible for the unpleasant episode, the sources said.

They said there was a possibility of the registration of a case against the guilty officials.
The report also recommended compensation for the journalists injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, sources said the report submitted to the commissioner’s office had been sealed.
