Dr Aafia’s two kids removed from Bagram prison

Lahore, Sept 6 : The Afghanistan authorities have removed two of the three children of Pakistani-American neuroscientist and “terror suspect” Dr Aafia Siddiqui from Bagram prison, claimed the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) in a statement issued last evening.

But, it said that the current whereabouts of the two children was not known.

Dr Aafia is currently held in the US on charges of assault and an attempt to murder members of the American forces during her custody in Afghanistan.

The AHRC statement further said that the government of Pakistan and the US owed an obligation to the family of Dr Aafia to inform them of the whereabouts of the two children. It would be a blatant violation of the rights of the child to keep them detained without access to their natural guardians, the Daily Times quoted the statement as saying.

“It is a matter of the absolute rights of children that whatever be the charges against the parents, they have the right of protection. Therefore the relevant UN agencies and all the authorities of the government of Pakistan and the US should effectively intervene to return these two children to their natural guardians,” added the AHRC statement.
