Democrats sweeps: KPC president’s poll result withheld till January 6

Karachi Press Club’s (KPC) has withheld the result of the club’s presidential election till January 6 as both the candidates for the post Ahmed Khan Malik of the United Panel and Mohammad Imtiaz Khan Faran of Democratssecured the same number of votes(579) in the club’s annual election held on Saturday.

However, if both the groups fail to solve the matter by Jan 6, the election committee might announce re-polling for the post. Such a situation has arisen for the first time in the KPC’s history as its constitution is silent in this regard.

All other posts were, however, clinched by the Democrats.Arman Sabir retained the seat of secretary by securing 846 votes while Arman Sabir of the Democrats panel retained the seat of Secretary with securing 846 votes while his opponent Faizan Lakhani polled 312 votes.

Saeed Sarbazi won the vice presidential slot with 822 votes while his opponent Salilk Majeed got 338 votes. Raja Kamran won the seat of treasurer with 786 votes, while M Naeem Khokhar managed to get 374 votes. Similarly, Mohammed Saqib Saghir won the slot of joint secretary with 790 votes while Liaquat Ali Rana secured 364 votes.

The Demorates panel also retained all 7 seats of the club’s governing body as Abdul Jabar Nasir got 800 votes, Abdul Waheed Rajpar 763 votes, Zain Ali 705 votes, Atiqur Rehman 696 votes, Bena Qayyum 676 votes, Saeed Lashari 662 and Liaquat Mughal secured 579 votes. Out of the registered 1476 voters, around 1182 votes were cast, while 18 votes were rejected. Results were announced by the KPC’s election committee chairman Hassan Imam Siddiqui.
