Democratic Group Sweeps Haripur Press Club Elections, Claims All Key Positions

The Democratic Group won all key positions in the Haripur Press Club elections for the 2024-26 term, securing a sweeping victory in the polls held on January 29. The elections were conducted under the supervision of the Election Tribunal following orders from the local labor court following the press club’s registration under the Industrial Relations Act, 2010.

Out of 66 registered members, 40 participated in the voting. Zakir Hussain Tanoli was elected as President with 37 votes, while his opponent, Shahid Akhtar Awan, secured two votes. Hafiz Javedul Haq won the position of General Secretary with 38 votes, defeating Malik Shahid Tabassum, who received one vote.

The other elected office-bearers include Senior Vice President Arshad Mehmood Boby, Vice Presidents Malik Jamil Khan and Qazi Muhammad Nisar Ahmed Khan, Joint Secretary Mehmood Akhtar, and Information Secretary Shehzad Tanoli. Muhammad Ishaq Rajput and Muhammad Ishaq were elected unopposed as Finance Secretary and Office Secretary, respectively.

The election was overseen by Regional Information Officer Ikramullah Shahid, who served as chairman of the election commission, with District Bar Association President Asad Saeed Khan and Advocate Saifullah Khan Qureshi as members. The labor court had appointed them to supervise the process.

Former minister Qazi Mohammad Asad Khan, former provincial assembly members Dr. Faiza Rasheed and Gohar Nawaz Khan, civil society activists, and local government representatives observed the electoral process.
