Degree issue: ANP leader vows to sue newspaper

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party leader and Senator Haji Adeel said on Friday that National Assembly’s Standing Committing on Education had no mandate to investigate the genuineness of the degrees.

Talking to mediapersons at Peshawar Press Club, he asserted that only either high courts or the Election Commission could ascertain the veracity of academic documents.

He claimed that his B.A degree was genuine and a report in this regard was baseless. He said that if the newspaper did not seek apology, he would sue it in the court.

The senator said he passed B.A from Edwards College in 1964 and submitted the degree to the Election Commission in the elections of 2002 and 2008. He also distributed photocopies of his B.A degree among the journalists on the occasion.

“I was astonished to read the news story. I contacted the administration of the newspaper thought one of its reporters. I was told that the reporter will contact me. I have been waiting since morning but nobody has contacted me yet,” he stated.
