Curbs denied on court reporting
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court denied on Thursday’ that any curbs had been placed on reporting of its proceedings in the Press or that the entry of reporters in courtrooms had been banned.
LHC registrar Moazzam Hayat said the court was fully empowered to regulate its proceedings and hold them in camera if so deemed fit in public interest. The Press is obliged to carry substantially true reports without prejudicing any trial or proceedings or committing contempt.
The registrar said he had no knowledge of any new code of conduct for superior court judges or amendments to the existing one. It is not for the Supreme Court but for the Supreme judicial Council to issue a code of conduct under the constitution.
