Culture and Art Forum’s mushaira enthralls audience

KARACHI: Culture and Art Forum (CAP) oragnised a mushaira titled ‘Khuwateen Basant Mushaira’ featuring poetry of ten female poets at a local hotel here on Saturday. The event was presided over by Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Chancellor ZA Nizami, while Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqui was the chief guest of the event.

The participants include Romana Roomi, Seema Ghazal, Huma Beyg, Dr Nushut Abbasi, Hejab Abbasi, Naseer Nazish, Shafiq Bano Barelvi, CAP chairperson Ghazan Jaffri, famous poetess Rehana Roomi, and Wajahat Naseem. All poetesses specially took the theme of Karachi situation in their poetry, depicting that the poets were sensitive members of a society and situation of society also affected them, they shared the feelings they experienced on unanticipated conditions and they believed they should consider serious measures to change the environment of society.

They also read their poetry on Basant, love and passion. A large number of people, including prominent and known personalities, was present on the occasion and overwhelmingly cherished the Mushira.

Dharkshan Jaffri started the event with the recitation from the Holy Quran then she invited CAP chairperson to delivered welcomed speech. In her welcomed speech, Jaffri said that before organising the event she was worried about the situation of the city, but she believed ‘Basant’ was the grace of Almighty Allah and she thanked all guest, including chief guest, to be a part of the event and prayed for the betterment of deteriorating law and order situation in the metropolis.

The advisor while addressing the event, said that all poetesses read beautiful pieces and some of them inspired her a lot. The situation of Karachi was different from our desire unfortunately, she added.

Farooqi further said, “I wish we could read those appreciating poetries which this metropolis deserve.” Today we should all stand together to bringing unity in country and we should fight against circumstances with great emotion, she said.

She said, “Shaheed Benazir Buhtto always said that we should bring women in all department of country and this event depict her feelings, where only female are performing.”

SSUET Chancellor Nizami said that it was an amazing event and he was feeling good to be there. He also declared to provide space for such type of events at SSUET in future.
