Creation of more provinces sought
QUETTA: The Pakhtun Balochistan Province Movement has called upon lawmakers to amend the Constitution so that new provinces could be created in the country.
Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Saturday, a former federal minister and chairman of the PBPM, Mir Haji Tareen, called for holding a referendum in Pakhtun-dominated districts of Balochistan to determine aspirations of the people about a new administrative unit. He said the Pakhtun of Balochistan should be given three options in the referendum – either to remain in the present two-ethnic province or to create a separate province or to merge with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Haji Tareen claimed that it was the federation`s responsibility to ascertain the aspiration of Pakhtuns in the light of the 1940 resolution to resolve the problem on a permanent basis.
