CPNE flays explosion at newspapers offices
KARACHI – Secretary General of Council of Newspapers Editors (CPNE) Khushnood Ali Khan has condemned explosion at the offices of Daily A warn and Daily Tijarat, Quetta situated in the building of Universal Complex and demanded of the government to take practical steps for giving due protection to newspapers offices.
The offices of Daily Atemad, Daily Intekhab and Daily Public, Quetta were also damaged in the explosion.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the CPNE expressed concern over lack of interest on part of the government for not giving attention to insecure environment for journalists in the area. The council also took serious notice of threats hurled on journalists working in the area and termed recent explosion at newspapers offices attack on press freedom.
The council urged the government that the people responsible for the explosion should be punished.
The CPNE emphasized that the problems of the journalists should be resolved immediately and they should be given due protection in performance of their duties, maintaining that the journalists did not belong to any political or ethnic group and protection of their life and property is the duty of the government.
