A delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) called on Yang Yundong, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, in Karachi on Monday.

The consul general welcomed the guests, reassuring them that his country would continue its unequivocal support for the development of Pakistan.

He reiterated that the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China would go from strength to strength.

The consul general maintained that China had been working on its trade infrastructure development for a long time under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), of which China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a flagship project.

He termed Pakistan a key partner in the CPEC project. We have five components of BRI currently underway, the consul general stated.

Although CPEC is not giving the desired output due to global crises, as soon as it attracts international investors, it will become one of the most successful projects, Yundong added.

He observed that China had been working on the upgradation of CPEC and established an institute for the training of Pakistani youth in Gwadar, adding that Beijing also planned to launch a number of development and educational projects for them in other mega cities.

On the upcoming general elections, the consul general maintained that China would welcome any party that wins the vote.

Recalling the terrorism threats that China faced in the past, the consul general said that all the ruling parties and the Pakistan Army extended their full support to the Chinese diplomatic mission in Pakistan.

On the proposal of an intra-country payment system between Pakistan and China, Yundong said it depended on the mutual understanding between the two countries.

CPNE Secretary General Aijazul Haq presented a shield to the consul general whereas Vice President Aamer Mahmood gifted him Ajrak.

Arif Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Maqsood Yosufi, Jabbar Khattak, Abdul Khaliq Ali, Bashir Memon, and Mudassar Alam also attended the meeting.
