The District and Sessions Court Ghotki has denied bail to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khalid Lund and his sons, Shahbaz Lund, and Noor Muhammad Lund, in connection with the murder of journalist Nasrullah Gadani. The ruling, issued on August 27, also reinstated anti-terrorism charges against the Lund family, reversing an earlier recommendation by Investigation Officer DSP Siraj Lashari.

Nasrullah Gadani, 40, was murdered in a targeted attack on May 21, while riding his motorcycle in Mirpur Mathelo. After initial treatment at a local hospital, Gadani was airlifted to Karachi for further care but died from his injuries on May 24. Known for his critical reporting with the Sindhi language daily Awami Awaz, Gadani’s death led to widespread protests across Sindh.

On August 1, 2024, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siraj Lashari submitted a report to the Ghotki Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) that cleared MNA Khalid Lund of direct involvement in the murder. The report identified Shahbaz and Noor Muhammad Lund as the planners of the crime and recommended the withdrawal of the anti-terrorism sections from the case. Despite these recommendations, Judge Abdul Qudoos Memon’s ruling reinstated these charges and rejected the bail applications of the Lund family.

Following the court’s decision, Khalid Lund and his sons reportedly fled the courthouse with the help of their security personnel. Witnesses noted that the Ghotki police did not take immediate action to apprehend the suspects, leading to concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in handling high-profile cases.
