Court defers Jang Group petition hearing against Bhutta till Jan 15

By Asim Jawaid

ISLAMABAD: The Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Akmal Khan has deferred the hearing of the petition filed by the Jang Group of Companies against a PTV employee and owner of a dummy newspaper Shoaib Bhutta till January 15.

On the occasion of hearing, the accused took the stand that his counsel had been appointed as attorney general therefore any other date should be fixed for the hearing. On this, the judge said it was not the matter of court as the petitioner and witnesses were coming on every date when the court started. The judge directed him to present his lawyer.

After sometime a junior lawyer appeared on his behalf and took the plea that the defendant could not appear in the court due to the death of his close relative. On this the honourable judge ordered the lawyer to inform the court in written.

After that the lawyer of the accused submitted written application. But the judge expressed anger by saying there seemed controversy in your earlier stand and in this application, therefore it should be presented with correction. After the resubmission of the application with correction the honourable judge fixed Jan 15, 2011 for filing evidence.
