Couple, daughter found slain

LAHORE, Sept 17: A couple and their minor daughter were found slain in the Bhati Gate area on Thursday.

The crime scene in Hakeemanwali Gali led the police to suspect that householder Nadeem alias Papu, 35, might be the culprit as he was used to quarrelling with his wife over domestic issues.

Using a 30-bore pistol, police said Nadeem first shot dead 28-year-old Uzma and three and half years old daughter Huria before shooting himself.

The killings came to the knowledge of Hakeeman Wali Gali residents when a neighbour visited Nadeem’s house for some work but found no response from inside. He called other neighbours who broke open the lock and found the three lying in a pool of blood in a room. Police were alerted immediately.

Officials from Bhatti Gate police rushed to the spot, collected necessary evidence from the scene and shifted the bodies to the city morgue for post-mortem examination.

City division SP Zeeshan Asghar Malik told Dawn Nadeem first shot his wife and daughter in the head before shooting himself.

He said the police did not find any license of the weapon, suspecting Nadeem might have arranged it from outside.

He further said that investigators also did not find any suicide note or other evidence which could establish the motive.

Quoting neighbours, the SP said the couple would often quarrel over unknown issues. He said a case would definitely be registered against Nadeem for killing his family and committing suicide.

Further police inquiries revealed that Nadeem had married Uzma four years back and they were currently living at a rented house. Their quarrels over domestics issues would end up in Nadeem thrashing his wife.
