‘Contexture of Time’ opens at Coopera Art Gallery
LAHORE: A solo exhibition of paintings titled “Contexture of Time” by Andleeb Rana opened at the Coopera Art Gallery on Tuesday.
Andaleeb is an MPhil student at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and practices studio art. The exhibition showcased 25 paintings done in digital and mix media.
This series of paintings is themed around the concept of time and its importance in an individual’s life and hence, its significance for the larger society. Talking about the thought process that went into painting this series, Andleeb said, “I have tried to explore time through my paintings. I have tried to assemble the various fragments of time. Time can be both tangible and intangible at the same instance and it is both the seen and the unseen that my work depicts. Nevertheless, it plays a very important role in our lives.”
Andleeb has explored a variety of materials, experimenting through texture and imagery. Her paintings are strictly abstract yet very multi-layered. For instance, the clock in its various forms –a half clock, a hazy clock, a complete clock – represents a different aspect of time in each form.
Most of her paintings are done in hues of yellow and brown and explore the dynamics of social, economic and political changes. “The inspiration behind my art is not personal but social, political and economic. The idea is to explore the emotional dynamics and upheavals that time brings about in these arenas and affects the society as a whole,” Andleeb added.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Dr Murtaza Jafri. He praised Andleeb’s work and said that, “Such opportunities for young artists are not only important for art enthusiasts but they are also important for art students who acquire new knowledge. Art always plays a very effective role in providing knowledge of the past and the present.” The exhibition will remain open till December 24, 2013.
