Construction at KPC Housing Scheme begins

KARACHI: The construction of first home at the KPC Journalist Housing Scheme Hawksbay has begun.

Director General Lyari Development Authority (LDA) Agha Masood was the chief guest at the simple but impressive ceremony.

Construction of first home has initiated by senior journalist Javed Rasheed (Jang), who is willing to complete the work in a two-year span and plans to shift to the coastal colony by 2014.

Agha Masood DG LDA along with President Tahir Hasan Khan and Treasure Muhammad Rizwan Bhatti laid the foundation stone of the first home being constructed at the Hawaskbay Scheme 42 block 3 and 3-A for members of Karachi Press Club, which was launched in 1996.

Talking to newsmen, DG LDA said the development work at housing scheme was in full swing and LDA was trying to hand over the scheme to club members by 2013.

He said LDA plans to complete the infrastructure development work at the scheme before the deadline.

He said that initially drainage work was under way and the soon after it the remaining uplift work will be started.

Speaking about the 467 new plots allotted to KPC members, he said that for them the LDA had spared block 2 of scheme 42 and cost formula with Chief Minister Sindh had already been finalised.

In this regard some 12 challans had already been distributed by the CM in the last week of December 2011, while remaining challans would be handed over to the KPC members in a ceremony, soon.

“Agha Siraj Durrani Sindh Minister for Local Bodies is personally taking interest in the project and willing to distribute the challans among journalists in a ceremony, which will be held soon as per schedule giving by the minister”, he added.

He appreciated the efforts made by present KPC body for initiating construction activity at Journalist Colony.

He said with a view to widen the Hawaksbay road up to 300 feet, funds would be earmarked in the next fiscal budget by the provincial government.

SG LDA also asked the officials to provide full security to the labour working at the housing scheme, besides providing all necessary facilities to the journalists.

On the occasion, Asif Jiaja, Saeed Sarbazi Imdad Soomro members governing body Karachi Press Club, senior journalist Javed Rasheed and other officials of LDA were also present.
