Conspiracy still on, says Khursheed

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Wednesday warned that a conspiracy is still being hatched and political leaders will have to demonstrate patience to come out of the current situation.

The opposition leader seemed happy that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians, including the party’s deputy parliamentary leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, attended the session of the joint sitting of parliament, saying parliament was wining in the prevailing political crisis.

“The decision of the PTI to attend the parliament session was a D-day for parliament and is also a victory for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif because theyattended the session and the prime minister was sitting here and did not tender his resignation,” he said, while speaking to the joint sitting.“Being merely emotional cannot bring success. Ultimately it is patience that stands victorious,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ANP Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash and Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao protested to the National Assembly Speaker for giving the floor to Shah Mehmood Qureshi, saying he had resigned from the National Assembly.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq clarified that the fate of the resignations of PTI legislators will be decided after completing the procedure. “The opposition leader and other parliamentary leaders of the opposition also requested me to hold the decision for the time being and I had taken a decision keeping in mind democracy and the view of parliament”.

There was a consensus on both sides of the aisle for taking action against those who had attacked the Parliament House. The Speaker said the NA secretary had registered an FIR against those who attacked the parliament building.

Maulana Fazl said the PTI and PAT are pursuing the same agenda and their leaders have also publicly declared their association. He said the PTI members had tendered their resignation to shake parliament but their plot failed due to the unity shown by the other political parties.

He complained that the PTI vice chairman should not have been allowed to speak in the House when his party had already submitted their resignations.Syed Khursheed Shah, however, supported the Speaker for allowing the PTI leader to speak in the House. “Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s speech has proved that while Nawaz Sharif has stuck to his position, the PTI has accepted parliament,” he said. “We had asked Nawaz Sharif not to resign at any cost.”

He asked the members of parliament not to maintain double standards on the issue of the speeches made by Javed Hashmi and Shah Mahmood Qureshi. “Hashmi was happily allowed to come to parliament, but objections were raised against Qureshi.”

Khursheed Shah was of the view that parliament has staged a victory by showing unity. “I advised Prime Minister Sharif to convene a joint sitting of parliament and thankfully he agreed to my suggestion,” he said.

He said the opposition parties have formed a political jirga with the purpose to bringing the PTI back to the House after separating it from the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).He said the prime minister has emerged as a great leader because of the patience demonstrated by him over the last couple of weeks. “We had told the government to let the PTI enter Islamabad and stop the PAT as it was not a political party,” he added.

Shah urged Nawaz Sharif to impart some patience to his cabinet members too.Qaumi Watan Party leader Aftab Khan Sherpao said Nawaz Sharif is the prime minister of the country and he will stay in office for the next four years.

He said Nawaz Sharif will not resign from his office on the unconstitutional and undemocratic demands of the parties staging a drama outside the Parliament House.During his speech, Sherpao commended some PTI members for attending the session and congratulated Nasir Khattak, Gulzar Khan and Mussarat Ahmed Zaib on making the right decision to support democracy.

He said that it’s the beauty of democracy that the lawmakers were present without a telephone call from anyone.Aftab Sherpao said both the PTI and PAT are equally responsible for the attacks as their leaders have now assembled on the same container.

He said parliament is a supreme body and it has raised its voice to clear not only the Parliament House but also the entire D-Chowk from the protesters. He said the protesting parties have committed contempt of parliament by declaring it fake.

He said that all the political parties are united inside the House but the two brothers (Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri) sitting outside the Parliament building had started their scheming in London.

He asked the protesting leaders to at least share the rigging evidence with the opposition so that they could also join hands with them in demanding the prime minister’s resignation and dissolution of the assemblies.

Aftab Sherpao termed the allegations levelled by Imran Khan on journalists and lawyers ‘shameful’ and stated that whoever speaks against them, will have to face the consequences of the allegations.
