PESHAWAR: The Journalists Welfare, Safety and Development Foundation (JWSDF) has issued a data form to all of its coordinators to collect basic information about the relatives of the slain mediapersons so that practical steps could be taken for the welfare of the bereaved families.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the foundation at the Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, with its patron Syed Bukhar Shah Bacha in the chair. The participants reviewed the preliminary work on its membership in Peshawar, various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal agencies.

The meeting was informed that so far about 30 senior journalists in Peshawar had agreed to work voluntarily for welfare of the mediapersons and support the JWSDF in this regard. The meeting decided to arrange an introductory meeting for the members of monitoring and evaluation committee, advisory council, cabinet and its board of directors at the Peshawar Press Club on June 22, 2013 so that they could expedite coordinated efforts for families of the slain and other needy mediapersons.

The participants expressed satisfaction over the work on website of the foundation, membership process, and contacts with government officials, ministers and other relevant people to get their support for welfare of the community.

The JWSDF also decided that besides extending financial support to the needy journalists, it will also support the non-journalistic staff including hawkers. Besides financial support, family members of the martyred journalists and needy community members would be trained in different technical fields so that they could earn livelihood with honour. The journalists were asked to download the forms after a week from the website www.journalistsfoundation.com and return them to the respective coordinators.
