CM expresses deep grief over Majid Nizami’s death

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and immense grief over the death of Dr Majid Nizami, editor-in-chief of Urdu-language daily, Nawa-i-Waqt, and he visited the residence of the deceased to condole with the bereaved family.

According to a handout, the chief minister shouldered the coffin and offered funeral at Bagh-i-Jinnah. Later, after the burial of Dr Nizami in Miani Sahib Graveyard, the chief minister laid floral wreath on the grave and offered fateha.

Paying tribute to Dr Nizami for his invaluable services to journalism, safeguarding of ideology of Pakistan (Nazria-e-Pakistan), welfare of workers of Pakistan Movement, strengthening of democracy and ensuring supremacy of law, the chief minister said that a glorious and historic chapter of journalism has closed due to the death of Majid Nizami.

No doubt, he said, the commitment of Majid Nizami for promotion of democracy and democratic values was uncontroversial and unflinching. He said that the history of supremacy of constitution and strengthening of democracy in the country could never complete without mentioning the role of Dr Majid Nizami, who held the rulers strictly accountable in every era and provided guidance to the people at every stage.

Talking to the media at Dr Nizami’s residence on Lawrence Road, Chief Minister Shahbaz said that his death had caused an irreparable loss to the country and the nation. He said that Dr Majid Nizami was a patriot, a true Pakistani and a custodian of geographical frontiers of the country.

He said that Nizami’s services for the promotion and propagation of Nazria-i-Pakistan were unforgettable and that the late Nizami had never bowed before dictatorships.

He said that Dr Majid Nizami was a national asset and that he was deeply grieved over his death because he (Nizami) always treated him with immense kindness.

Earlier, the chief minister cancelled all of his scheduled engagements for Saturday due to death of Dr Majid Nizami.

After attending the funeral and burial at different places in the city, the chief minister again visited the residence of Dr Nizami and prayed for the departed soul. Mention of services rendered by Dr Majid Nizami brought a tear to the chief minister’s eyes on a number of occasions.
